Students

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. -Aristotle

Students are what PFF is all about!  We exist to assist area students in a successful transition to college.  We have students from all 8 Richmond city high schools and 3 Henrico county high schools. Students are not only employed through PFF during the summer, but participate in personal development and college prep programming year-round.

During the school year:

Our year round programming has been revised to better address the needs of our students. PFF recognizes our students are busy and active in various school and community activities. This programming expands on the following two guiding principles:

  • Risk is fundamental for growth, and PFF will provide opportunities for students to stretch their comfort zones in order to build self-confidence.
  • PFF seeks to find "teachable moments" and new and different ways to expose our students to opportunity.

Students will be engaged in career exploration, cultural events, leadership opportunities, critical thinking, and personal development activities. Students will also have access to special dinners and events where they can meet influentional leaders locally and nationally.

Here are some planned activities and the areas of development they fall under:

  • IMAX Fighter Pilot movie and discussion: Empowerment and Goal Setting
  • Chick-fil-A Dodgeball Tournament: Teambuilding and Teamwork
  • VMFA Wearable Art Show: Career Exploration in the Arts
  • Bingo Night at Hospital Hospitality House: Community Service and Leadership
  • Richmond Forum Speakers Events: Exposure to Leaders in Various Fields
  • Second Annual Career Roundtable: Career Exploration
  • Northern Virginia/DC College Tour: College Exploration

SAT prep classes, financial aid workshops, and college fairs are also offered during the year for students and if applicable, their parents.

Don't forget the fun parts too! PFF hosts events to socialize and allow students from different schools to get to know each other better. Students and staff have played Laser Tag at Laser Quest in Shockoe Bottom and have attended a reception and games at the Richmond Times-Dispatch high school basketball tournament.
